Every year our volunteers:
- Remove acres of invasive non-native plants from area parks and public areas
- Replant stream buffers
- Assist in propagating and maintaining plants at native plant nurseries
- Lead nature walks in area parks
- Help restore parkland and meadows with local ecotype plants
- Provide outreach to the community at events such as Alexandria Earth Day, Arlington County Fair, native plant sales, and farmers markets
- Collect and clean native plant seeds
- Participate in bird, frog, butterfly and other critter counts
- Grow and plant native aquatic grasses in waters leading to the Chesapeake Bay
- Are citizen scientists at the National Park Service
- Act as Audubon at Home Ambassadors to help homeowners create eco-friendly landscapes for beneficial wildlife
- Provide expertise and assistance for K-12 environmental education
- Organize and host community programs and lectures on a variety of environmental topics
- Host children’s parties at nature centers
- Serve as water monitors in Arlington and Fairfax counties
- Support outreach programs at local nature centers
